At the end of last year, Marinepool, the sailing clothing company announced that in addition to the deal that makes them Official Clothing Partner of the Extreme Sailing Series, they have also done a deal with Oman Sail.
We caught up with Christoph Stadler from Marinepool to talk about how the partnerships are working. If you would prefer to watch the video of this interview – you can watch it here…
Last year at this time, we came to Oman for the first time, and seeing what these guys have built in a very short time – Oman Sail was founded in 2008 and have just celebrated 3 years. We introduced ourselves and talked to them about a potential partnership.
Towards the end of the season, this developed into a real partnership and so now we are doing clothing for the Extreme 40 Team, the M34 for the Tour de France a la Voile. We had a partnership for Sailing Arabia the Tour (SATT) and we also will kit out the MoD70. Also included is the sailing schools, youth programs, instructors and womens program.
The Women’s program is a challenge – to get culturally acceptable clothing for ladies to go sailing in Arabia, but the partnership is a very positive one.
I’ve hardly ever seen a bunch of people working so hard and so positively and looking forward to new projects like they do. It’s a real pleasure to work with them.
Marinepool is not new to the gulf region, but the partnership with Oman Sail helps their presence and awareness in Oman and builds on projects that came before.
We had a strong presence in the Emirates – we did the Louis Vuitton Trophy – the last show of the old America’s Cup in Dubai. We’ve done a lot in the sport of powerboats with Class 1 and of course Dubai is one of the centres of that sport.
But we didn’t have a presence here in Oman and also Sailing Arabia the Tour (SATT) has raised our profile in the region, but the partnership with Oman Sail itself is a great one to have.
Marinepool are beginning their second year as Official Clothing partner of the Extreme Sailing Series.
We are getting a lot of exposure from the Extreme Series deal. It is the only real global circuit. We developed the first collection last year and this year we are attempting to have merchandising at all the events and we also have an online store that sells through the Extreme Sailing Series website and it’s a great opportunity to raise our global profile through this series.
