In the time that we have been compiling our list of relative performance of sailsport pages on Facebook, the social media platform has gone through some changes.
Believe it or not, there are still marketing and communication professionals who doubt the usefulness of Facebook. There are still brands who give the job of engaging with customers via social media to interns or junior PR people. But on the other hand, there are organisations who can turn likes into revenue through careful curation of social followers.
The ‘Talking About’ number for Facebook pages is a good barometer of what is going on in the sport of sailing.
In our February edition of ’8 Out of 10 Cats’ the Vendee Globe is the most talked about thing right now. Sailing Arabia the Tour has helped Oman Sail to generate some chatter and testing of the AC72 boats in Auckland and San Francisco means that Oracle Team USA, Emirates Team NZ and the America’s Cup are also in the list.
Those ‘punching above their weight’ this month include Giovanni Soldini – whose record breaking sail aboard Maserati took place last month and the Royal Ocean Racing Club – who staged another successful RORC 600.
Sailsport properties are on the hunt for more Fans. Emirates Team NZ is currently advertising on Facebook and have increased their Likes by 40% (5219) in the last month. Luna Rossa Challenge did even better, finding 7190 likes – a 92% increase on the month before.
